Alexandra Imelda Cecelia Ewan Burke (born 25 August 1988) is a British singer and winner of the fifth series of UK television singing talent show The X Factor. Burke had previously auditioned for the 2005 series of the show, where she reached the last seven in her category but was not selected for the live shows.
Burke’s prize, as winner, was a recording contract with Simon Cowell’s Syco record label, whose parent company is Sony Music Entertainment. The contract has a stated value of £1 million, of which £150,000 is a cash advance and the remainder is allocated to recording and marketing costs.
On 15 December 2008, Burke became the current European record holder for single sales over a period of twenty-four hours, selling 105,000 copies of her debut single, “Hallelujah”, in one day. The figure beats that of her X Factor predecessor, Leona Lewis, who previously held the record for selling 82,000 copies of her single, “A Moment Like This”, over 24 hours.[3] Hallelujah went on to become the Christmas number one single of 2008. It was also announced as the top-selling song of the year on the BBC Radio 1 Chart Show on 28 December 2008, beating The X Factor finalists’ song “Hero”. It is the first time that an X Factor winner has topped the end of year chart in the UK with their winner’s single. Sales of “Hallelujah” passed 1 million by 9 January 2009, making Burke the first British female solo artist to sell a million copies of a single in the UK.
Her debut album, Overcome was released on 19 October 2009 and entered the charts at number one. It will be released in the US at a later date. Lead single “Bad Boys” featuring Flo Rida debuted at number-one in the UK, becoming her second consecutive number-one single. Alexandra has enjoyed a total of seven non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the UK Singles Chart (three with “Hero” with the X Factor Finalists of 2008, three with “Hallelujah”, and one with “Bad Boys”)

I got to meet Bad Lashes (x-factor finalists) at a show I wrote a song for and won and was amazed to find that they were already fans.
They were all so sweet & said I had to enter x factor next year lol, So I put the small videos at the end of this one (Im not that short, just they had very big heels on lol)

For Leona Lewis’ first appearance in the X-Factor sing-offs she finished the show with I’ll be there.
Alexandra Burke opened this year’s second live sing off with the same song.
Not a bad basis for comparison at all, but I still get the ‘apples and oranges’ feeling. Hopefully, you’ll see what I mean. Two amazing female vocalists, both doing justice to a classic song.
The song itself, I’ll be There, written by Berry Gordy Jr, Bob West, Hal Davis and Willie Hutch has been a number one hit for the Jackson Five (who it was written for) in 1970, and Mariah Carey (1992). Hence the argument between Simon and Cheryl at the end there.
In his autobiography ‘Moon Walk’ Michael Jackson noted that “I’ll Be There” was the song that solidified The Jackson 5’s careers and showed audiences that the group had potential beyond bubblegum pop.
Interestingly, Guy Sebastian sang this song in the final two show of Australian Idol in 2003… He won!
Is the song blessed? Maybe Alexandra will be the third X-Factor live finalist to sing this song then go on to win the series?

A string of phenomenal performances, ending with the winners’ single, her delivery of which was beyond world class, she was an absolute, undisputed and deserved winner. Amazing vocalist, amazing performer, beautiful to see her claimed the winner. Best wishes to Alex, may she go from strength to strength!)
